Gourmet Burger Kitchen – RM20 2ZH
It was so bad I deleted all of the pictures!
In advance after a strenuous day of shopping, I came across a Gourmet Burger Kitchen or GBK which I had heard numerous reviews from acquaintances about the restaurant. After brief research of the company’s website, it came to my attention that the brand was well established given that GBK opened it’s doors in 2001. GBK had a similar theme to many of the other restaurants I have had the chance of reviewing such as Nando’s. A bold shop front sign of black and yellow, an high volume of glass and an interior which consisted of neutral yet effective colours of grey, black and wooden elements to make the customer feel as if they are sitting at home rather than a brightly coloured factory. I ordered a Classic Chicken burger and a side of House Fries which came to a total of £10.70, slightly overpriced in my opinion. The burger consisted of fried chicken patty, mayo, relish, salad and a sesame seeded bun.We went back to sit at our table to ponder how long and what the food would look like, it was disappointing to see the food arrived after 20 minutes and the weather did not help either given, we were seated outside. The experience got from bad to worse as when the food arrived, I was shocked at the size of the fries, they were smaller and thinner than toothpicks! The texture of the fries was similar to crisps – very crunchy and salty. Furthermore, I came for the main event which was the burger. Moreover, it was a disaster as the bun was larger than the patty, however the bread was dry and as hard as a rock. Furthermore, the patty was smaller than a chicken strip and the only positive aspect of the burger was the sauce. The mayonnaise had a buttery and creamy texture, however if I wanted to just have mayonnaise, I would have taken a direct train to Brussels from St Pancras on the Eurostar train! Overall, the experience was terrible in all aspects apart from the look and feel of the restaurant. The flavour of the food was non-existent and what made matters worse was the price I had to pay. I would have to admit that this experience has to be up there with the experience I had at Steakout, however I believe that GBK tops Steakout given the size of patty that I received. The only positives I can pick are that the interior was fresh and cosy, the staff were friendly and perhaps this could have been the worst GBK whereas the rest of the branches perform and produce high standards of quality food. Would I come here again? Very unlikely which has the potential to lead to an impossible chance of me going back to savour the food as I would not travel all the way to Essex to have mayonnaise. I am Belgian born; however I am not insane or at least I hope not!
